30-second sit-to-stand: the phone does the counting
Your client sits on a 43 cm chair and stands up fully, again and again, for 30 seconds. The phone counts from the side and, for age groups with reference data, compares the count with the same age and sex.

What it measures
The number of full stands in 30 seconds, judged from hip height and knee angle. If the client is more than halfway up at the 30-second mark, that counts as one more.
Counts for the first and second 15 seconds are recorded separately, so you can see how much the pace drops.
A lower-body endurance test that needs only a chair, so it is easy to repeat under the same conditions. When a person counts, what counts as "fully up" drifts; the phone uses the same rule every time.
Where to put the phone
- Side view, lens near seat heightPhone upright on a tripod, about 2.5–3 m away.
- A 43 cm chair with a backrest, against a wallThe client sits side-on to the camera. Tick in the app that you've checked the 43 cm seat height.
- Arms crossed on the chestKnees fully straight at the top; bottom touches the seat each time.
- Start seatedAlways start sitting down. Standing during the 3-2-1 restarts the set. Beeps mark the start and the end.
What the report shows
- CountTotal in 30 seconds, first and second 15 seconds, and average time per stand.
- Position against peersFor age groups with reference data, a line such as "within the average range for women your age". If the seat height wasn't checked or the client pushed off with their arms, the conditions differ, so no comparison is made.
- Change since last timeOn a re-test, the first sentence states the change since last time, and a trend chart shows the same test over time.
- PhotosA frame from the test, face blurred. Taken only with the client's photo consent and kept only on the trainer's phone and in the PDF. Report links carry no photos.
- Test video ProRecord the test, replay it with joint angles, and play it side by side with the first one. Videos stay on the trainer's phone.
Reference data
Rikli & Jones, Senior Fitness Test norms (J Aging Phys Act 1999; Journal on Active Aging 2002 table) — ages 60–94. The middle 50% (25th–75th percentile) of 30-second counts on a 43 cm chair with arms crossed.
Barros-Poblete et al., Chilean 30-second sit-to-stand reference values (Rev Med Chile 2025) — ages 18–59. Medians and 25th–75th percentiles on 43–46 cm chairs. MovePath uses the lowest, 43 cm, which makes it slightly harder for the client.
For ages outside both tables, the report shows the count and the change without a reference range.
Please note
MovePath is not a medical device. This test records measurements to guide exercise; it is not a diagnosis. App readings may differ from a goniometer, tape measure or stopwatch. Use them to compare the same client's first test with today's, measured the same way.
