Standing forward bend: how far below the soles do the fingertips reach?
Your client stands on a step and bends forward with straight knees. MovePath measures, in centimetres, how far the fingertips go below sole level. No one needs to hold a tape measure.

What it measures
The distance between fingertip and sole level, in centimetres: plus below the soles, minus if they don't reach. The hip angle at the lowest point is recorded too.
To turn on-screen distance into centimetres, MovePath uses the client's height, so it needs to be in the client's details.
Use it to compare the back of the body (hamstrings and lower back) before and after a block of sessions, measured the same way. Two attempts; the further one is kept.
Where to put the phone
- Side view, lens at hip heightPhone upright on a tripod, 2.5–3 m away. Before each test the app checks camera height and phone tilt, and tells you what to fix if they're off.
- Feet together on a stepA sturdy box or step, side-on to the camera. No step? The floor works too.
- Knees straight, slowly, hold 2 secondsAfter the beep, stand tall for a second, then bend forward, reach down and hold for two seconds.
What the report shows
- Fingertip reach in cmRelative to the soles, plus is below. The better of two attempts and the hip angle. On the floor, if the fingertips touch it, the result reads "touched the floor" instead of a number.
- Change since last timeOn a re-test, the first sentence states the change since last time, and a trend chart shows the same test over time.
- PhotosThe lowest fingertip point, face blurred. Taken only with the client's photo consent and kept only on the trainer's phone and in the PDF. Report links carry no photos.
- Test video ProRecord the test, replay it with joint angles, and play it side by side with the first one. Videos stay on the trainer's phone.
Reference data
There is no age- and sex-based reference table for this test in the report yet. Instead, the report shows the change since the same client's previous test. We only add tables whose numbers we have checked against the original paper.
Please note
MovePath is not a medical device. This test records measurements to guide exercise; it is not a diagnosis. App readings may differ from a goniometer, tape measure or stopwatch. Use them to compare the same client's first test with today's, measured the same way.
